Enrollment Information (State Employees): October is the "open enrollment" period when they can enroll in health insurance and other Pre Tax (PT) deductable benefits, with the exception of the Deferred Compensation Plan (457 Plan) because they can enroll anytime even though contributions are Pre Taxed (PT). The health insurance plan year begins in January, so any changes they make during open enrollment in October, wil go into effect in January 1st. | Enrollment Information (State Retirees) October is the "open enrollment" period, however, retirees are not really eligible for any voluntary insurance benefits except those they take with them upon retirment and will then have now pay directly (like AFLAC, etc). |
Criteria for Change in Status If your deductions are pre taxed, then you are limited to making changes only during annual open enrollment (October 1-31) unless you experience a "qualifying event" such as: 1. *Marriage/Divorce 2. *Birth/Adoption 3. Death of Spouse or Dependent 4. Change in employment status which will directly effect your eligibility or that of your spouse or dependent(s) 5. Open enrollment under spouse's employer's plan 6. Judgement Decree/Order 7. Gain or Loss of Medicare |
